The ab(use) of illicit and/or over-the-counter substances has become a common theme identified in research studies and clinical reports of LGBT youth. This full-day workshop will review national and local research findings, substance usage trends and unique variations by gender expression and identity, and pharmacology of substances commonly reported by LGBT youth. During the workshop participants will also explore some commonly reported stressors contributing to substance ab(use) such as verbal and/or physical abuse in home, community and school environments. Finally, participants will identify best practices for working with substance abusing/addicted LGBT youth.
