Lots of LGBTQ youth of color find themselves entangled with the law and sucked in and spit out by the criminal injustice machine. This training will consist of two parts, starting with “THIS IS My TRUTH”, a unique workshop designed for and by LGBTQQ youth of color. Using video combining personal testimonies, re-enacted real-life experiences, and descriptions of laws used to police street-based youth to provide information about street encounters, warrants, sexual harassment by police, inappropriate searches and placement of transgender youth, profiling for sex work - related offenses, and police response to interpersonal violence in queer relationships. The video will be followed by THE CRIMINAL INJUSTICE MACHINE workshop that combines web-based tools and interactive exercises to help youth understand the criminal injustice system and how they better protect their right and stay streetwise and safe.
